Mentoring

Recognized as an innovative and passionate mentor and educator, Marina Piccinini actively supports and guides musicians of all backgrounds and levels. As a professor at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, a senior member of the Marlboro Music Festival and School faculty, and the founder of her own Marina Piccinini International Masterclass (MPIMC) series, Piccinini has touched the lives of countless musicians, sharing her vast knowledge and unique teaching ideologies.

A role model with unparalleled expertise as a flutist, she brings a global-minded perspective to her coaching, derived from her own multicultural background, her fluency in seven languages, and diverse life experiences, including many years growing up and living in Europe, which informs a distinctly international component to her education methods. A 36th-generation Shaolin Fighting Monk, Piccinini’s extensive studies of Kung Fu, Tao, and Buddhism, and her appreciation of Persian poet Rumi, contribute to a unique teaching approach emphasizing discipline, focus, perseverance, curiosity, open-mindedness, and a view of music as a cross-cultural, universal language that eliminates boundaries.

Piccinini regularly gives workshops, masterclasses, and coaching sessions as a guest throughout the year at various institutions and festivals, and her acclaimed MPIMC program, an intensive week of artistic inspiration and development, draws flutists from around the world.
